The data in that paper is as processed as hot dog meat, a hallmark of pseudo science. If you want to be healthy, just look at what most healthy ppl do, like those in the blue zone. It’s clear and simple. Most so called scientific paper are written to impress the peers, usually misleading the public.

I'm pretty sure the UK Chief Medical officer said that the study shows there is no safe level of alcohol consumption. Then she said in the same documentary that women who consume 5 units of alcohol a week have a decreased risk of developing breast cancer.

but there's still a risk because tuberculosis can still kill people even if there's a vaccine or if it's curable. it's extremely rare to die from it in the West but it can still happen and so alcohol can increase that risk, even if it's very very rare. why remove it?

I noticed that too, but glad to see someone crunch some of the data. I'm in the States, so tb is not a worry. Ischemic heart disease is my main worry, and for many others here, diabetes is a big problem. Those drop with light to moderate consumption, though there's some increase in cancer risk. I'd guess that some of the car crashes are from binge drinking, where the daily average might be low, which raises the question of how many other risks are from bingeing. I no doubt drink a little more than optimal. But these sorts of scare headlines from the Lancet study don't help me weigh the true risks.
